8 October 2020 - The UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes region, Huang Xia, undertook from 28 September to 8 October a series of missions in the region and met with several officials, including Presidents João Lourenço of Angola, Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda. Mr. Xia briefed the leaders on the UN Strategy for Peace Consolidation, Conflict Resolution and Prevention in the Great Lakes region, and, as part of concluding consultations for this Strategy, sought their views on the UN’s role in the Great Lakes region. Mr. Xia also discussed the upcoming 10th summit of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework which will be hosted on 19 October by the DRC.
