International delegates, diplomats, experts, and industry leaders from nearly 60 countries gathered in Wuhan, Hubei Province - China, for a special plenary session marking the International Day of Peace 2026. Held at the Yangtze River Hall of the East Lake International Conference Center, the event provided a platform for dialogue on global peace, security, and development challenges.
Organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament under the theme, “Meeting Challenges Together for a Peaceful World,” this year’s International Day of Peace discussions focused on “Building Consensus on Peace and Security and Injecting New Momentum into High-Quality Development.” Participants highlighted the critical role of dialogue, mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and international cooperation in addressing conflicts and advancing sustainable development.
Participants hailed from civil society organization, parliamentary delegations, the youth and invited university students. The Office of the Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region was represented by Chief of Staff Ms. Maimouna Haidara. Discussions also noted China's emphasis on development and cooperation as important contributions toward fostering a more stable, peaceful, and prosperous international environment.
