A Successful 3-Day Small Arms & Light Weapons Training for Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism Experts

EJVM+ Experts participate actively in group discussions and interactive sessions throughout the training

As a follow-up to the Training-of-Trainers (ToT) on SALW Project previously conducted by UN-OSESG-GL in China, the ICGLR, through its Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism (EJVM), with the support of UN-OSESG-GL, successfully concluded a three-day Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Awareness Training from 11 to 13 August 2026 for 33 EJVM+ Experts in EJVM conference room, Goma, DRC.

This training is part of the "Reducing the Human Cost of Weapons in Africa" project — a UNPDF-funded initiative designed to strengthen weapons and ammunition management (WAM) capacities in DDR contexts across the Great Lakes region, with the objective of rolling out on-the-ground training programmes in the five pilot CCG member states and regional organizations.

The training brought together 33 participants from across the region, equipping them with enhanced knowledge and practical tools for SALW control and management within the framework of the UN-OSESG-GL SALW Project.

This training represents the African rollout and continuation of the SALW Programme Awareness ToT conducted in China, extending the capacity-building initiative from preparatory planning to on-the-ground delivery for EJVM+ Experts across the Great Lakes region. Moving forward, the five pilot countries will also organize similar training sessions, ensuring that capacity-building efforts are translated into tangible contributions to regional peace and security.
