Closure of UNIOGBIS

The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea‑Bissau (UNIOGBIS) was established on 26 June 2009. Its mandate ended on 31 December 2020, subsumed to the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

2007 Mandate

- Supporting national reconciliation and dialogue

- Assisting with security sector reform

- Promoting respect for the rule of law and human rights

- Mainstreaming a gender perspective into peace-building, in line with Security Council resolution 1325

- Promoting the peaceful settlement of disputes

- Helping mobilize international assistance reconstruction efforts

- Facilitating efforts to curb the proliferation of small arms and light weapons

- Enhancing cooperation with the AU, ECOWAS, CPLP, the EU and other partners
